I have been obsessed with shadows for sometime. I could have spent all day at the photography studio watching the dancers' shadows on the ceiling and walls. I need to find what Salman Rushdie wrote for Kara Walker. It was dark, and I don't see shadows that way, although it is not difficult to come to that association after seeing Walker's work at the expo in Santa Fe. What is it about shadows?

I saw Muriel Maffre last night walking out of the Robert Moses' 'Kin performance last night. She was right in front of me and I stopped her to tell her that I enjoyed her performance at the YBCA gallery, especially the shadows. I was truly enchanted with the lines of the shadows that she was creating both in contemplation and in movement. She replied, thanks and that she noticed them too and enjoyed that the audience was getting an intimate multi-dimensional experience. We were exiting the theater and it felt awkward to block the crowd, so we said good night and parted. Lovely!
